Students:
Studying in the Philippines is possible for overseas naturals through the Philippines study permit, a temporary immigration service whose duration is based on that of the course being studied.
In the Philippines, visas for study are required for all visitors who wish to undertake a course of study; it is not permitted to study in the Philippines on a short-term tourist visa and a Philippines study visa must be based upon an offer of a place for a recognized course.
Applying for a Philippines Study visa
The process of applying for a Philippines student visa progresses is as follows:
- In the first instance, an application must be made directly to the school of the applicant's choice. As part of this application, the candidate must submit a range of documentation to prove their identity, including a birth certificate, which must be authenticated by the Philippines embassy or consulate in the student's country. Evidence of the candidate's education to date must also be provided along with an assurance that the candidate is able to be funded or can support him or herself throughout the course of their time in the Philippines.
- The second step of the Philippines student visa application is for the applicant to be accepted by the school or college to which they have applied.
- Where a candidate successfully obtains a place to study, the educational institution will issue a Notice of Acceptance (NOA). In some circumstances, where a candidate will be attending a medical course or a course in other selected areas, it will also be necessary to obtain a certificate of eligibility for admission (CEA) which will be issued by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
- Beyond these steps, the student visa application itself can be processed.
All Student visas issued to Americans do not include their dependents.
Student visas are secured from the Philippine Embassy/Consulate in their country of origin or residence, irrespective of where they are at the time of approval of their application or where they initiated their application.
Submission of application for student visa for the 1st semester of each school year starts from January to March and 2nd semester from June to August.
Processing of student visa applications takes approximately two (2) months from the date of receipt.
Upon arrival in the Philippines, the American student must secure his Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) and Certificate of Residence for Temporary Students (CRTS) at the Bureau of Immigration, Intramuros, Manila.
The American student is advised to secure a Study Permit before enrolling from the Commission of Higher Education.
