Traditions:

Friendship, nationalism and commitment are greatly appreciated in culture of Philippines.

Interestingly enough, English language is commonly used in Philippines and shows trends of American influence in the spoken style, basketball, fast-food joints, sprouting interest in American music and movies.

Celebrations:

New Year Day begins with a bang on the very first day of the year. In the provinces people use home made bamboo cannons to shoot the old year out of and the New Year into their modest live. In the cities, New Year is celebrated with fireworks and hooting horns. New Year's Day is more of a family holiday than Christmas. It is combined with Rizal Day on 30 December to provide time for people to go home to their province.

Procession of the Black Nazarene is celebrated when thousands of men parade through the streets with the life-size statue of the Nazarene which dates from the 17th century. Women can watch, but they cannot join. The event draws massive crowds, since touching the statue is supposed to produce astounding effects.

The Moriones festival is celebrated when Marinduque Crowds of town people dress up as a Roman legionaries and figures from the Bible.

Flores de Mayo is a gentle and esthetically pleasing fiesta which lasts for four week long. Every day, little girls in festive costume present fresh flowers to the Virgin Mary in church and at the end of the month the May festival culminates in processions and parades.

Alcohol:

18 years is the minimum age limit for consuming alcohol.
